Give a Summer is a nonprofit dedicated to expand access to summer opportunities to all students. Give a Summer develops new ways to understand and increase youth access to summer opportunities, and works with partners and through public advocacy to bring its innovations to scale.
Currently, Give a Summer focuses on two initiatives: 1) helping communities better understand where and why kids miss out on summer programs and what steps they can take to increase youth access to summer opportunities and 2) leveraging mentor organizations to help their mentors get their mentees excited about and engaged with summer opportunities.
In more detail, the first initiative involves partnering with schools, in-school programs, or afterschool programs to survey kids and parents to understand where and why kids miss out on summer programs. Give a Summer then analyzes the collected information and shares the results with our collaborators and the broader summer program community to help our partners and persuade others to take up this work in their communities and at larger scale. The second initiative has Give a Summer partnering with existing mentoring organizations to help their mentors do summer outreach and engagement with their mentees over a structured, multi-week program. Click here to read about our work in this area.
