Give a Summer is committed to expanding access to summer opportunities to more youth.
The vast majority of our work to that end centers on two initiatives: i) helping schools and communities better understand where and why kids miss out over the summer, why, and how they can help more of their youth make great summer plans and ii) helping mentors assist their mentees in making great plans for the summer.
We are also excited, though, to bring in new partners to the broad work of expanding summer access, as we think it is urgent, necessary work that many different groups should support. In that spirit, we wrote an article for Real Clear Education arguing that Republicans should be interested in taking up the work of expanding summer opportunities to all kids.
Below is a spreadsheet with the data behind the statistic we cited of low Republican sponsorship of state bills expanding summer program opportunities.
